It Isn't About Us

Hello hello! It has been a while since I have written anything. It certainly takes some adjusting to move to a new place.
I have been focusing a lot on getting my kids through this first season of their homeschool journey and making some progress with some other areas of my life. My garden, my cookie business, and my real estate courses. I also joined a tap class and have been practicing this passionate hobby again. My husband and I have some other fun projects in the mix, but if I spill all the tea, there will be no anticipation.
Doing all of this has got me thinking about my why. Why do I do any of this? Career progress? Money? Self satisfaction? Possibly. What can these accomplishments do for a greater cause though? What are they really contributing to the world?
I have a friend who specializes in self reflection and self progress. She put a post up asking if we woke up one morning and we suddenly had all the money we needed for the rest of our lives, what would we do? Most answers were different ways different individuals would set up their kids, take a well deserved vacation, pay off their mortgage, and all of those are incredible goals. However, my initial response was to give it away. Why? Do I not want those same things? Of course I do, but I can already do that for myself.
There is a quote I heard once that says "Bake the bread like you don't own the bakery." and that has resonated with me for a while now. It's a great reminder to stay humble. Naturally I threw that in my response. I spilled my heart about opening resource centers to educate others about food, health, and simply being resourceful. I mentioned having community centers and ways I can give back to the upcoming generation. I can work and pay my bills. I'm perfectly happy doing that, but my neighbor might need that money more than I do. I would simply give it back. I have no use for excess funds.
This has started some incredible conversations with a couple friends about ways we can give back and ways we want to collaborate to make change in our nation. Change for the better. So I would like to encourage you to think about your own resources. Where in your life do you have overflow? Can you make a meal and send it to your neighbor without knowing what their financial status is? It does not matter why they need either. They need it, and we do not, right?
I know it is a lot easier said than done, but we have to try. Our nation is in shambles because of this. There is a great divide between "elite" and "not elite", and the reason is because of our own pride. We are chasing "elite" and no one knows why they're chasing it. Our own biased feelings of "I deserve this" truly cloud our better judgement most of the time. It is up to us to change the mentality of wealth and find value in the resources that surround us.
I am going to end this right here today. I will write on this again in the next couple days. I hope you feel some encouragement to start the conversation. In the end it isn't about us.
Alla Prossima!
